Hi there Bride2bee,

Okay, flowers for March: Blue and white Hydrangea are in available pretty much all year round now so you should not have any trouble getting them, roses, gerbera, freesia, stephanoptis, lysianthus, lilies, iris, hyacinth, tulip, carnations, daisy mums, babies breath, waxflower, limonium and statice to name just a few. Tropical flowers are also available all year now so you can get things like, bird of paradise, ginger, calla lilies, anthuriums etc., too.

The best thing that you can do is go to a few florists and see what they can do for you, take with some pictures from magazines(try not to go for Martha ones as a lot of florists are not too impressed with the work in the mags, too expensive to make etc...)there is a great English magazine, I do not know if you can get it in New York, but if you can it is called Wedding Flowers and is just filled with ideas for wedding flowers. Hardly any ads and not articals, just wedding bouquets and ideas for receptions and ceremonies, arranged in colours so you can see what goes nicely together. Find the florist that you are most comfortable with, who knows your style as soon as you start discribing it. What you will find is that he/she will give you their ideas too and together you will come out with something that you really wanted and have a great wedding day.

One last thing, since it is getting close to the end of the year and florists are booking now for next year, I would suggest that before winter sets in, that you start looking and booking, just in case the florist that you choose is already booked and you have to start looking for another one. You should remember that most florists book the flowers for their weddings about 2 weeks in advance, so you can change your mind about flower colours and add or subtract anything before the 2 week period. Don't be afraid to ask questions related to your wedding, if your florist is good he/she will be more than willing to help you with any questions or requests. You will have your final table number by 2 weeks prior to your wedding, so at that time you should inform your florist if the tables are the same as when you were in the consultation or if they have gone up or down, so that the final payment will be accurate and reflect the changes.

Best advise...relax and enjoy yourself. Once you have found the florist that you click with everything will go just great. Oh, don't forget to ask to see their portfolio of work they have done, don't just go out of published books, ask to see weddings that they have done and if they know your venue too, it is not important that they know your venue, but sometimes it is good to know.

Hope this helped, let me know how it goes and if you need any help feel free to email me with questions. Unfortunately I do not know any florists in Brooklyn to refer you too, but I can always give you advice.

Sincerely

Fran
