Many brides are choosing to have an outdoor wedding and/or reception. The beauty of an outdoor wedding is very appealing. Many venues have wonderful outdoor areas with fabulous grounds and breathtaking views. It’s no wonder that the bridal couple get so caught up in their dreams and planning that they may overlook one very important factor – Mother Nature!

Your wedding day dream did not include the skies opening up and drenching you and your guests or the wind blowing over your wedding cake (and this has happened). When planning any outdoor event, it is prudent to have a back-up plan (Plan B). Speaking from a planner’s perspective, it’s unthinkable not to have one. As you and your wedding consultant visit each outdoor venue, make sure you ask what contingency plans they (the venue) recommend should Mother Nature not cooperate. Not every venue will have the room to handle the indoor ceremony/reception.

For example, if your wedding ceremony is being held outdoors at one of the gardens at a club house and it starts raining just when your ceremony is to begin, where do you go? If you plan your wedding/reception in a local park, there may not be any place to go. Your wedding consultant will be able to give you alternatives for your specific location.

Always, always have a viable contingency plan to fall back on just in case the weather decides to wreak havoc on your dreams. As the old saying goes, “it’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.”
