One of my favorite things about engagement photos is that they often feature soon-to-be-married couples alone. The pair is often participating in an activity they love to do together, with no distractions, other than the occasional flash of the camera. Of course, there’s nothing more beautiful than a couple’s wedding day, surrounded by friends and family, all celebrating your love. But there’s something to be said about the calm before the storm. The photos that feature just the two of you. No wedding party. No aunts and uncles. No college friends. Just you and the one you love.

The absolutely amazing David of D Coleman Photography in Springfield, Missouri, got the opportunity to go out with Todd + Heather on what was presumably their last professionally documented hurrah as an engaged couple. So many of the photos feature Todd + Heather dancing together, dancing alone with nobody else in sight. And while they’ll have their one big dance on their wedding night, it’s likely that for the rest of the night, the dance floor will be packed.

I was so touched when I read Heather + Todd’s engagement story and learned that Todd reserved a room in the Lodge of the Four Seasons at the Lake of the Ozarks for just the two of them on the night he proposed. Because he wanted them to be alone to dance. The two indulged in a very private and customized dinner and when Heather’s favorite song came on, Todd asked her to dance. And asked her to spend the rest of her life with him. Of course she said yes.
Heather + Todd will have many more private moments dancing with each other in their future. And whenever Todd asks, “May I have this dance?” I have a feeling Heather will always say yes.
